Nancy Phillips

President & CEO

Nancy Phillips has earned a distinctive reputation within the Technology Industry for being one of its most charismatic, influential and dynamic leaders. Her solid track record of building successful, multimillion dollar businesses from startup to disposition with best-in-class return on investment, distinguishes her as a top leader in the space.  Nancy began her career in Telecommunications as Vice President of Sales with Teleconferencing Systems of Canada where she built the Business Services sector to the largest in North America. Since then, she has been a partner in numerous startups and acquisitions. In 1999, she co-founded ViaWest and assumed the Chief Executive Officer role in 2012. Nancy is committed to promoting women and diversity to create a vibrant technology community, not only in Colorado, but globally. She serves on the Board of Directors of several professional associations, most notably, The National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT); Colorado Technical Association (CTA) where she served as Chair; and the Denver School of Science and Technology (DSST). A native of Toronto Nancy received an Honors Bachelor of Economics Degree from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. 

Bob Newman 

Chief Operating Officer

With a wealth of experience in high-level operations management and team development, Newman leads ViaWest’s service management and support group, spearheading ViaWest’s operations and its customer-centric focus on service excellence. Newman joined ViaWest’s senior management group in the summer of 2010 as Senior Vice President of Service Delivery and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in late 2012.  Prior to ViaWest, Newman worked at the LDS Church in Salt Lake City, where he directed the global operations and infrastructure services group and oversaw product management, communications, infrastructure engineering, operations, and service support functions. In addition to the Church, Newman also served as senior vice president at Infocrossing, Inc. where he, among many other achievements, created a “One Company – One Team” vision to integrate four business units into a single IT outsourcing business, and successfully demonstrated his ability to lead the organization to deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a focus on revenue growth and margin improvement. Before Infocrossing, he was the senior vice president of service delivery at (i)Structure–a wholly owned subsidiary of Level(3) Communications. He joined (i)Structure after serving as vice president of information technology operations at Corporate Express. Newman holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Science from the University of Florida.

Michael Krza

CFO

Michael Krza has been part of the ViaWest management team since 1999 with oversight of ViaWest’s finance, accounting and purchasing functions. During his tenure, Krza has guided ViaWest through several rounds of equity and debt financing and numerous acquisitions. Prior to joining the company, Krza was an audit manager with Arthur Andersen, LLP in the firm's Denver branch. Currently, Krza serves on the Board of Advocates for Children (a CASA organization) and is a past Board Chairman. Krza received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University and is certified as a public accountant in the State of Colorado.

Jason Carolan

CTO

Carolan joined ViaWest in 2011 as Vice President Product Development before being promoted to the newly created role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). As CTO, Carolan is responsible for the strategic direction of all ViaWest products and technology initiatives. Prior to ViaWest, Carolan had nearly 20 years of experience in leadership positions in both small startup companies and large Fortune 100 enterprises, focused on product architecture, product management and technical sales. His previous roles include over 10 years at Sun Microsystems, where he was a Distinguished Engineer in network and systems architecture, focused on cloud computing and data center architectures, and Director of Cloud Services Engineering at VMware. Carolan was the lead author of one of the first books highlighting the combined use of virtualization and automation. He also has several patents in networking, data center resource management, virtualization, and security.

Christopher Rajiah

Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing

As the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Rajiah drives ViaWest’s direct sales and channel efforts. He also leads the company’s marketing organization, driving messaging, branding and go-to-market strategies for the full product and services portfolio. Prior to ViaWest, Rajiah served as Vice President of Worldwide Partner Sales for Rackspace Hosting. At Rackspace, Rajiah was responsible for the company’s global partner program where he led the company’s go-to-market channel strategy and oversaw the channel sales and marketing organization. Under his leadership, Rackspace’s global partner program evolved from a one-size-fits-all to a Partner Network that allowed Rackspace to better respond to the changing needs of its growing global partner base. He was also instrumental in building a direct sales cloud unit targeting specific communities such as digital agencies, e-commerce providers and content management system providers, that drove sales and channel engagement to multi-year highs. Prior to Rackspace, Rajiah was responsible for North American channels and worldwide strategic alliances at Extreme Networks, driving direct sales and strategic channel partnerships in more than 30 countries globally. His past experience also includes work in 3COM’s global strategic named accounts group. Rajiah received his Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Georgia College and State University.

Joe Guerriero

Senior Vice President & General Counsel

Joe oversees all legal affairs for ViaWest and plays an integral role in the ViaWest management team.  Guerriero joined the ViaWest team in 2010, after assisting in the acquisition of the company by Oak Hill Capital Partners. Prior to joining ViaWest, Guerriero worked for Hogan Lovells, LLP where he specialized in corporate transactional matters, and before that he was with Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP (New Jersey branch) and Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, LLP. Guerriero received his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Boston University.

Dave Leonard

Chief Data Center Officer

As Chief Data Center Officer, Dave Leonard directs the design and construction of new data centers and data center expansions, as well as defining the standards and practices for operation of ViaWest’s data centers. He is also responsible for strategy and positioning of the data center colocation product lines. Prior to ViaWest, Leonard founded Critical Infrastructure Consulting LLC., and was the Chief Technology Officer of Infocrossing for nine years. He was also the Chief Technology Officer for (i)Structure, a division of Level(3) Communications which Infocrossing later acquired. Prior to that, Leonard was Chief Technology Officer of Corporate Express, Inc. based in Broomfield, Colorado. Leonard also has a long-time affiliation with the Uptime Institute, the leading educational and standards organization in the data center industry. He was an Uptime Institute Fellow throughout the Fellow Program’s life, has contributed to thought leadership and Uptime Institute white papers, and is a judge for their annual Green IT awards in the Data Center Design category. Leonard holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Texas Christian University.

Anne McCord

Vice President of Human Resources

With more than 15 years of experience in human resources and senior leadership positions, McCord ensures that ViaWest’s human resources programs and practices support the organization’s strategy and growth objectives. She is responsible for employee recruitment, performance management, acquisition integration and implementing HR tools that will maximize organizational effectiveness. Prior to joining ViaWest in 2007, McCord held senior HR leadership positions with Bonfils Blood Center where she designed human resources systems and employee engagement programs. As senior vice president at Bonfils, she also served as a board member and managing director for HemoNet, a subsidiary application service provider supporting mission critical applications for blood centers nationwide. McCord holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and also holds certification as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR).

James D. Buie

Senior Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis

With 20 years of experience in financial and operational senior leadership positions, Buie is responsible for establishing the ViaWest financial plan to achieve company objectives. He has oversight of the organization’s forecasting, budgeting, capital management, purchasing activities and leads implementation of tools and processes to optimize management business decisions. Prior to joining ViaWest in 2012, Buie held senior leadership positions in the telecommunications industry with Tele-Communications, Inc., AT&T Broadband, and Comcast specializing in the growth of new products and new business segments. Buie holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from Florida State University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Colorado. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.

Roy J. Dimoff

ViaWest Co-Founder & Chairman of the Board

Roy Dimoff launched ViaWest in early 1999 and provides strategic guidance for the company which has become one of the largest privately-held colocation and managed services providers in North America. Dimoff is a visionary who launched his first telecommunications company in Toronto, Canada at age 26. In 1988, he sold his company to ConferTech International of Denver, and accepted an executive management position. After a successful tenure with ConferTech, Dimoff took control of RMI.net, and led it through one of the first Internet IPOs. Dimoff's entrepreneurial spirit and achievements are well recognized by prominent business leaders and analysts. Roy holds a number of prestigious awards, including:
  • Denver Business Journal's "Who's Who in Technology, Telecom and Media"
  • Colorado Technology Association’s "Technology Executive of the Year"
  • Ernst & Young’s "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" for the Rocky Mountain Region

Dimoff is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration.

Nancy Phillips

A self-professed “Serial Entrepreneur and Business Builder”, Nancy Phillips has earned a distinctive reputation within the Technology Industry for being one of its most charismatic, influential and dynamic leaders. Her solid track record of building successful, multimillion dollar businesses from startup to disposition with best-in-class return on investment, distinguishes her as a top leader in the space.   She began her career in telecommunications as Vice President of Sales with Teleconferencing Systems of Canada where she built the Business Services sector to the largest in North America. It was here that she met Roy Dimoff and developed a strategic partnership with him that has thrived for more than 20 years. They have partnered in numerous startups and acquisitions and in 1999, they co-founded ViaWest. In 2012, Nancy assumed the Chief Executive Officer role. Nancy is an accomplished, innovative and influential leader whose strengths include strategic leadership in profitable acquisitions, an uncompromising dedication to service excellence, and being an enthusiastic mentor and high performance team builder. She is committed to promoting women and diversity to create a vibrant technology community, not only in Colorado, but globally.   She serves on the Board of Directors of several professional associations, most notably, The National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT); Colorado Technical Association (CTA) where she served as Chair; and Startup Colorado. She is a popular and vibrant speaker and panelist on numerous forums focusing on women in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She has been recognized as a rising star and prominent leader within the technology and entrepreneurial communities, and has received numerous awards for her contributions.

J. Taylor Crandall

Oak Hill Capital Partners

J. Taylor Crandall is a managing partner of Oak Hill Capital Partners and has been part of the firm since 1986. Crandall has senior responsibility for originating, structuring, and managing investments for the firm's Media and Telecom and Technology industry groups. Prior to joining Oak Hill, Crandall was a vice president with the First National Bank of Boston, where he managed a leveraged buyout group and the bank's Dallas energy office. Crandall graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College with a bachelor’s degree, where he has served on the Board of Overseers. He also received an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Bowdoin College in 2010.

William J. Pade

Oak Hill Capital Partners

William J. Pade is a partner of Oak Hill Capital Partners and has been with the firm since 2004. He is responsible for originating, structuring, and managing investments in the Technology group. Prior to joining Oak Hill, he spent 26 years at McKinsey & Company, where he was most recently a director and the managing partner of McKinsey's Silicon Valley office. Prior to that, Pade was based in London, where he led McKinsey's high technology and telecom practice in Europe. He graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration with distinction from Harvard Business School.

Rick Magnuson

GI Partners

Rick Magnuson founded GI Partners in 2001, a private equity advisor with $6 billion of assets under management. He leads the GI Partners team and oversees all of the group's operations. Magnuson is also the co-founder and chairman of Digital Realty Trust, the leading global provider of data center and Internet peering points. Prior to founding GI Partners, he served as deputy managing director of Nomura’s Principal Finance Group in London, which he joined in 1994. At Nomura, he assisted in the investment and oversight of approximately $3 billion of equity capital invested in businesses and properties located in North America and Europe. Previously, Magnuson was a director of investment banking at Merrill Lynch, where he provided corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions advice to asset-based businesses. Earlier in his career, he worked for Digital Research, the company that created the personal computer operating system, and founded and sold Interactive Software, a software services company. He also previously served on the board of Glenborough Realty Trust, Inc. until its sale in 2006. He is a charter member of the San Francisco Bay YPO chapter and a trustee of the Hoover Institute at Stanford University.

Mike Fries

Liberty Global

Mike Fries is President and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Global. A 25-year veteran of the cable and media industry, he spent nearly his entire career building international distribution and programming businesses. Prior to the formation of Liberty Global, Fries served as President and Chief Executive Officer of UnitedGlobalCom, one of the first companies to expand into international cable TV and programming. Fries is a member of Liberty Global's board of directors, an active industry partner and Telecom Governor of the World Economic Forum, a member of Young Presidents Organization, and a member of the board of CableLabs and The Cable Center. He also serves as a board member of the Colorado Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Denver Biennial of the Americas, the Alliance for Choice in Education, Teach for America and Graland Country Day School, among others. He was recognized as Communications Executive of the Year (2010) by Communications Technology Professionals, Industry Leader of the Year (2010) by Digital TV Europe, and inducted into Cable Television Pioneers Association (2011). Fries holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and an Master of Business Administration from Columbia University.

Mark F. Bowser

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Cox Communications, Inc.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Mark Bowser oversees accounting and financial planning and analysis; mergers and acquisitions; supply chain management; content acquisition and legal, regulatory and government affairs. He also is responsible for the company’s business services and media advertising business units. Over his 30-year career, Bowser has been responsible for a portfolio of diverse strategic areas including finance, operations, sales, marketing and business development for several Fortune 500 companies. He has held an extensive number of senior-level financial positions including accounting, financial analysis, and mergers and acquisitions at various companies. Bowser joined Cox in 2006 as Vice President of Cox Business where he was responsible for overseeing the commercial services division of Cox Communications. In this role, he provided leadership to develop and serve a $7 billion market of diverse business customers. Prior to joining Cox, Bowser was Vice President of Dell’s Large Corporate Accounts business division where he was responsible for providing computing solutions to Fortune 1000 customers.  Bowser began his career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigating white collar crime. He began his telecommunications career at GTE where he held positions of increasing responsibility in finance until he joined Sprint and several of its predecessor companies. In addition to roles in finance, Bowser also served as President of Sprint’s $3.5 billion Enterprise Markets division providing integrated telecommunications solutions to Fortune 5000 companies, and as Senior Vice President of Sprint’s business sales. A native of Altoona, PA, Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from Pennsylvania State University. He has been a board member for the STARTLIGHT Foundation and Ronald McDonald House charities.  In 2012, he was named a Penn State Alumni Fellow.

David S. Scott

Oak Hill Capital Partners

David S. Scott is a Principal of Oak Hill Capital Partners and is responsible for investments in the Technology group.  Mr. Scott serves on the board of directors of Intermedia.net, Oversee.net, ViaWest, Inc., and eGain Communications Corporation.  Prior to joining Oak Hill in 2002, he worked at The Blackstone Group in its mergers and acquisitions group.  Mr. Scott earned a B.S. degree and a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
