ViaWest strongly believes that as a company we have a responsibility to actively support, and participate in charitable outreach - Uganda's Musana Children's Home is a fantastic & worthy organization
Three University of Colorado students from Boulder, Andrea & Leah Pauline, and Sally Carlson, decided to travel to Uganda in 2008. What they discovered were absolutely terrible living conditions in a local orphanage. With a state shutdown of the orphanage imminent, these ladies could not walk away. Instead, they worked dilligently with local officials to find a suitable location to move the orphanage to, so they could establish a safe and secure environment for the children. Their story ran on a local Denver station, and caught the attention of ViaWest's management, and the well known ViaWest spirit was ignited in full. As one of the first corporate sponsors to support the development of this vision, we provided the funds to ensure all of the children had fresh new uniforms. Today, our company participates in a capital campaign to support future housing needs, classroom space, and land for growth.
"Musana", which means Sunshine in the local language, is an unbelievable success story in an impoverished and war-torn nation. What began as a vision for three amazing women has now evolveded into a fully functional 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, providing housing to over 80 children and education for over a 120 full-time students. Additionally, more than 30 native Ugandans are employmed by Musana. Also, the majority of the food for the children is grown or raised right there on site, which ensures an ample and consistent food source. This wonderful organization gives children the opportunity to become educated, which improves the local community giving them all hope for a brighter future.
